Channel preferences: which channel for which goal?

Google Ads

71% of SMEs actively use Google Ads. Primary goal: leads (quote forms, phone). Among e-commerce SMEs, 64% track ROAS. Average monthly Google spend: 8,500 TRY. See our Google Ads CPC by Industry report for sector differences.

Meta (Facebook / Instagram) Ads

58% usage. Strong in B2C retail, aesthetic healthcare, and local services. Lower budget share in B2B (12% average paid mix) due to lead quality concerns.

SEO

63% say they "actively invest in SEO"; only 29% have had a technical SEO audit. Among SMEs producing content (blog, guides), 67% report organic traffic/lead growth within 12 months. Weak site infrastructure delays SEO ROI — aligned with our web performance analysis.

Social media (organic)

78% have accounts; 41% post regularly. "We post but get no conversions" is a common complaint in interviews. SMEs with content calendars and CTA-driven posts show clear difference.

Email marketing

Only 34% active usage. Email nurturing reduces lead cooling where CRM integration exists; significant growth opportunity.

Agency working model and satisfaction

62% currently work with a digital agency or freelancer. Average agency relationship length: 18 months. Satisfaction score (1–10): average 6.4.

Top 3 reasons for switching agencies

  1. Measurable results / ROI transparency (44%): "We get click and impression reports but cannot see sales impact."
  2. Insufficient communication and reporting (38%): No monthly meetings, unreachable in urgent cases, reports are unclear.
  3. Lack of strategy (31%): Operational campaign management only; no channel plan, budget optimization, or integration.

Freelance vs agency

54% of SMEs with budget under 10,000 TRY/month prefer freelancers. Above 25,000 TRY/month, 71% use full-service agencies. Freelance satisfaction drops when integration (web + ads + SEO) is needed.
